Chrome gleaming and neon glowing, a truly magical place awaits you. Billy Bob’s Silver Diner, “A Tradition of Great Food and Memories,” is a glorious gateway back in time. This lovely malt shop provides everything that you would want in a diner. As you enter the swinging doors into a clean black and white checkered wonderland, fit with ‘50s style vinyl booths, you know you have found somewhere special.

Billy Bob’s offers typical diner fare at affordable prices. You can choose from the all day breakfast menu, a variety of salads and a wide range of lunch and dinner specialties.

Breakfast includes eggs, breakfast sandwiches, omelets, pancakes, waffles and French toast, not to mention the choice of some delectable sides. On Saturdays and Sundays, Billy Bob’s serves brunch until 2pm, ideal after a long night out. Kick it up a few notches and go for the eggs benedict or corned beef hash and eggs.

Home-style meals like meatloaf, chicken fried steak or even baby back ribs can fill your home cooked craving for around $7-$9. Lunch and dinner options all come with a side dish of your choosing and a small salad.

You can also feast on the cutely coined “T- Bird,” “57 Chevy” or one of their other nine sandwiches for around 6 bucks. Some sandwiches include: the classic BLT, Philly Cheese Steak and a good ol’ fashioned burger. All come with chips or a hefty portion of tasty steak fries. Order a soda, tea, juice or even a Bud to wash it all down.

You will have a tough decision when it comes to dessert, for there is an array of cakes, pies, ice creams and scrumptious milkshakes to treat your sweet tooth.

All the fare is much more satisfying when you are served with warmth and hospitality. Chances are you will become “honey” or “sweetie” to one of the friendly waitresses as soon as you walk into this doo-wop paradise. The wait staff is friendly, quick and intuitive. Being a queen of klutz, I dropped a knife during my meal. Within seconds, a waitress whisked over to our table with a new set of silverware despite the busy crowd.

Billy Bob’s gives off a down home vibe, matching the diner’s heartwarming beginnings. Owners Bob Gibson and Bill Freeman are life-long friends. They joined forces to recreate a place that is an escape from the hustle and bustle of our modern madness. The Silver Diner, opened in February 2003, is the product of a dream of reliving a simpler time: a time of friends, community and some comfort food.

While the list of food joints in Winston seems unending, Billy Bob’s is a certain treasure of atmosphere, food and service. Check out photos, a menu and special events at their website: www.billybobssilverdiner.com
