Please note: Since the publication of this article, C&K Bagels has now changed to Bagel Station II. A new review is coming soon.
If you're looking for a quick, easy, and yummy bagel, C&K Bagels is the perfect place. Anything else out of the bagel realm, stick to the Winston-Salem classics like Carving Board and Rose’s. Although this joint calls itself a bakery and deli, its deli offerings are a bit limited. To test the deli options, I ordered a vegetarian café sandwich on a sun-dried tomato wrap.
C&K Bagels breakfast choices are far more varied. Coming from the New York area, I enjoy a thicker, fuller bagel and that’s exactly what I found here. The flavors are fun and plentiful, so getting bored with bagel options is not likely. Apart from the usuals (wheat, cinnamon raison, plain, everything) are chocolate chip, cinnamon crunch, French toast and banana nut. On top of these different freshly baked bagels are flavorful spreads, such as honey butter, veggie, strawberry, peanut butter and herb. Health conscious? They have light spread options such as light veggie, light plain and light honey walnut raisin. A bagel and spread ranges from $2.25 (with plain cream cheese) to $6.85 (a salmon bagel with cream cheese). Besides the bagel with spread, you can opt for a breakfast sandwich, such as an egg sandwich with sausage, bacon or ham. Also, this place offers good deals for to-go orders, such as a baker’s dozen for $8.87 and a bagel combo (13 bagels and 2 tubs of spread) for $14.50.
Although I didn’t get the chance to try them, C&K offers an array of frozen and hot drinks. Their frappes include mouth-watering flavors such as coffee toffee, caramel latte, mint chip, Acai white tea, Reese’s peanut butter cup and cookies & cream. They also offer fruit smoothies with daily flavor specials such as strawberry peach, mango, sour green apple and banana. If you’re sick of coffee, hot chocolate, chai lattes, and cappuccinos (which they do offer), C&K Bagels has plenty to choose from.
Located in a shopping plaza, C&K Bagels offers a convenient, friendly and stress-free atmosphere. The walls are adorned with coffee accents and pictures from the families of local patrons. With spacious booths along the sides, small square tables in the middle and light radio music in the background, C&K Bagels is an ideal study spot. There always seems to be a place to sit and the front of the store is all windows, so the lighting is ideal for studying.
Lastly, C&K Bagels seems to always be running low on the popular bagels, such as whole wheat and everything. To avoid this, get there before noon to guarantee yourself a warm bagel of your choice, especially on the weekends. My personal favorite? A whole wheat bagel topped with peanut butter and a sliced banana.
