Big Shotz Drink Specials
Allison Fairall, Dining Editor

It's a Wednesday night. It's a Thursday night. Actually, it's a Monday night. Regardless, you and your friends are looking for a fun time, a night-time escape from the rigors of Work Forest. Opera House is too far away, as is the equally distant Foothills Brewery. If it is any night other than a Wednesday or the weekend, you will be hard pressed to find a frat party with an attendance of more than five. So, where are you and your fun-seeking friends to go?

Big Shotz Tavern, located at 109 S. Stratford Rd, is the newest option for college student fun as they have recently revamped their efforts to attract Wake Forest students. Big Shotz listened to the comments and opinions of our students and now has many carefully thought-out deals and accommodations.

Probably of the most interest to Wake Forest bar goers are the beer specials. Big Shotz has lowered their prices on specific days for specific brews:

Monday: $2.50 Yuengling Drafts & $5 LITs
Tuesday: $2 Domestic Drafts & $4 House Highballs
Wednesday: $2 Bud Light Drafts & 1/2 price wines
Thursday: $2 Miller Lite Drafts, $3 Sweetwater Drafts & $5 Lemon Drop Martinis
Friday: $3 Blue Moon Drafts & $5 Cosmos
Saturday: $2 Domestic Drafts, $3.50 Fat Tire Drafts & $5 Margaritas
Sunday: $2 Domestic Drafts, $4 Bloody Marys & $4 Mimosas

In addition to the cheap alcohol every day of the week, Big Shotz is adding live music on Tuesdays and Fridays. In November, Jamie Carroll will play every Tuesday night from 7:30 - 10:30. Betty Ashby, the owner of Big Shotz and the mastermind behind these exciting changes, commented that Jamie Carroll, "is amazing! If you haven't heard him sing, you need to check him out!" Their regular Friday night lineup includes Rolling Highway (Nov. 6), the Allison King Band (Nov. 13), Jerry Chapman (Nov. 20), and Rome Juliana (Nov. 27). Ashby explained that these upcoming entertainers are "all great performers!"

Along with the cheap beer in the bar, Ashby noted that "we've added lots of TVs so [students] can catch all the games on the weekends! Plus the beer and wing specials are the best in town!" Big Shotz has increased their numbers of TVs in order to give students another game day gathering place. With so many students from out-of-town, many of us yearn to have a location to watch our hometown teams, especially on NFL Sunday.

Furthermore, remember that gloomy, rainy day where standing out in the elements with your friends to watch the game seemed uncomfortable, if not impossible? I know that I would have been much more comfortable sitting inside, eating wings in a bar as opposed to getting drenched and eating soggy popcorn at the Miami game this past weekend.

The final, but perhaps most exciting, change at Big Shotz is "College Connection Wild Card Wednesday." Ashby explains that you just "bring your student ID, pick the Wild Card and receive one free drink on the house!" Free drinks on Wake Wednesday!? Thank you, Big Shotz.

Ashby concluded our interview warmly; she seemed genuinely interested in forming a connection between Big Shotz and the Wake Forest community. "We're very excited at Big Shotz to have college kids enjoying our Stratford restaurant and bar. Big Shotz and Wake Forest are a natural fit. It's the hometown connection."
