No, not that kind of game…if that’s what you’re looking for, then head on over to Pledge Night. We’re talking about an open video game and tournament night in the ZSR Library Atrium! Enjoy simply playing games or fiercer tournament competition among other Wake students from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. this Friday, January 25. The top four players at Wake will then compete with the top four players at UNCG’s game night happening simultaneously.

Not quite sure what an open video game night entails? It offers an expanded and more social environment for gaming. Students register for a spot to play, and some bring their own consoles as well. Then, they are hooked up to projectors so that they can game on a big screen. There’s also going to be a Nintendo Wii available for anyone who wants to play. And, if you forget to register, students who’ve brought their own consoles would be happy to let you join in.

The library director, Lynn Sutton, thought up “Get Game” as a fun way to draw students into ZSR. Also, it presents an opportunity for both students and staff to learn more about gaming and gamers. Such enthusiastic students coming out to play have definitely made an impact, as this is ZSR’s sixth event and second tournament. The infamous Giz Womack of ZSR (remember when he explained what not to do to your laptop during your freshman orientation?) notes several aspects of the event in an email interview. “Meeting students, learning about gaming, and giving students something fun to do at ZSR” are what he most enjoys about the event.

Be sure to register to guarantee a seat—over a dozen students as of January 18th already had, with more each day. “Get Game” is both an open, drop-in game night and tournament. Email itc@wfu.edu to reserve a space for either regular game or tournament play. And don’t worry, if you just want to hang out and watch, feel free to drop by the event too. The free pizza and soda is always a plus.

And contrary to what you may believe, the university is not trying to draw students away from “Pledge Night,” as the date was actually chosen to facilitate the tournament with UNCG. So, go on and check out ZSR this Friday night. That way you’ll get some game you’ll actually remember.
